General Questions

  1. How do I download a demo from the ECS website?
    To download software from the ECS web site, click on the appropriate link. Within a short time, a dialog box will come up asking if you want to open the file or save it to disk. The file must be saved to disk. After selecting the option to save the file, most browers ask you where you want to save the file. Any location on the computer is fine, but you need to remember where you put it. After it is downloaded, double click on the file, and it will install normally.
  2. Who can I contact for unanswered questions?
    ECS technical support is available through e-mail only. Please e-mail support@ecsmedia.com. Please include the product, version number, when you purchased the product, your operating system, and a description of the problem.

  1. How do I enable multiple users to run one program in Windows XP?

    Log into XP with an Administrator Account. Install the software as suggested in the manual. Once the install is complete, open "My Computer" and go to the folder where the program was installed - default is C:\Program Files\ECS Media\[Software Title]. Right click on the folder. Select "Sharing and Security..." enable "Share this folder on the network" and enable "Allow network users to change my files." This will allow other users to write to the files that are stored inside the folder, a necessity for many of our programs.

    Additionally, you will have to add a method for the users to open the program. This can be accomplished by placing a shortcut to the executable in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu. To create a shortcut, right-click the executable file. Select "create short-cut." Right-click the new shortcut file. Select "cut." Go to eitherC:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu. Right-click inside the folder and select "paste."

  2. How do I enable multiple local users to run one program in Windows 2000?

    Log into 2000 with an administrator account. Install the software as suggested in the manual. Select "Properties", click on the "Security" tab. Click on the group you wish to share this program with. Check the Allow Modify box. Click "Apply". THis will allow other users to write to the files that are stored inside the folder, a necessity for many of our programs. You need to repeat the same procedure with your system folder - default is C:\WINNT\System32 though it could also be C:\WINNT\System.

  3. How do I enable remote users to run a program installed in Windows 2000?

Select "Sharing..." Click "Share this folder." Click "Permissions". Ensure that the group "Everyone" has Allow Full Control checked. Click "Permissions". Ensure that the group "Everyone" has Allow Full Control checked. Click "Apply." You need to repeat the same procedure with your system folder - default is C:\WINNT\System32 though it could also be C:\WINNT\System.

Macintosh Operating Systems

  1. How do I install a program?
    Newer ECS Macintosh titles have an install program. Double click on the disk icon, and a window will open holding the install icon. Double click on the install icon, and it will guide you through the rest of the install process.

    Older ECS Macintosh titles do not have an install program. Double click on the disk icon and a window will open holding a folder. Drag the folder from this window to the hard drive icon on the Macintosh.

  2. I downloaded a demo but it won't install. Now what?
    Older ECS Macintosh demos are in BinHex (.hqx extension) format and need to be converted to a binary file (.bin extension) before it will install correctly. You can convert the file by using an application such as StuffIt Expander.
